Overseas Mission
As a church we are actively involved in four nations: India, Mongolia, Peru and The Sudan. We regularly take up mission offerings; the money is then distributed to the various projects accordingly. We also seek to help in other areas, particularly in humanitarian relief work.
INDIA
Our work is concentrated into two areas of the Andhra Pradesh region, Hyderabad and Ponnur.
In Hyderabad, the work is concentrated on regularly visiting the city for the purpose of training pastors and other church leaders.
In Ponnur we helped to build and establish the Barachel Children’s Orphanage. We now have sponsors for approximately 60 children. All the children are well fed and clothed and educated in the local schools through their sponsorships. Also in Ponnur is the Barachel Leprosy Home, which houses approximately 40 people, each of whom carry this awful disease. Finance is always required to help feed and clothe the occupants and improve their quality of life.
MONGOLIA
Christianity is still only in its second decade in this vast country, but it continues to grow at an ever increasing rate. It is now estimated that there are approximately 40,000 Christians and over 400 churches across the country.
There is a real need for training at all levels and Christians Alive are fully committed to visiting on a regular basis for the purpose of helping church leaders in particular. We also endeavour to financially support the Mongolian people in general, in starting new micro business ventures, as there is much un-employment and poverty across the country.
PERU
In the area of Moyobamba , there is a very high incidence of cleft palate and hare lip. The Clinica San Lucas helps children to smile again by carrying out operations which transform their lives. Christians Alive helps to support the project with finance and also the support of a young speech therapist who is greatly loved by the children.
In Huanuco, our work here is with Margarita who was brought up in a very difficult shanty town situation. She was sent out to work at a very early age, but was rescued by a missionary
couple who were able to house and educate her. When Margarita became an adult, she decided she wanted to help children who were suffering as she had done as a child; she is now " mum" to over 65 children. The work is continually expanding and there is now a team of young people working amongst over 400 children , tending to the children's physical, emotional and spiritual needs. Finance goes towards such things as medicines, bibles and craft work materials.
SUDAN
The UN has described the crisis in Darfur as one the world's worst human disasters. Since war broke out in 2003 around 300,000 people, most of them civilians, have died and more than 2 million have been displaced from their livelihoods. A frail peace agreement between some of the Darfur rebel groups and the Khartoum government in 2006 failed to ensure peace and security. Despite less media attention now than at the outbreak of the crisis the peoples of Darfur continue to suffer.
Christians Alive is supporting a rural health and development programme in Northern Darfur. The programme serves a population of around 30,000 people by providing medical care, food, health education and through rural community development. The team consists of seven expatriates and over 50 Sudanese national workers who passionately serve their people and make a big difference to their lives.
