Why

We believe that Jesus Christ's final words before returning to the Father gave us the organising principle around which church should operate; namely, to go and make disciples in the world, by the power of the Holy Spirit working through us. We also recognise that God's great love for people extends to those who live in poverty, loneliness, on the margins of society, and that we see this exemplified in scripture in the Old Testament; through Jesus' example; and also in the witness of the early church in the New Testament. God is missional and incarnational. He left the comfort zone for us, and now he chooses us, His church, to leave our comfort zone and reach others with good news.

What & When

The organised mid-week activity of Christians Alive is centred on this missional impulse of God. Every member of the church is called to engage in going out, making disciples and caring for the poor in our city. We do this through groups of like-minded people operating together in Impact Ministries. These ministries are quite organic in nature and vary in what they do, who they reach out to and when they meet. Some of these groups are geographically-based, such as Spirit of the Community outreach on Ryelands Estate, whilst other groups focus on reaching out in word and deed to various age groups, people of specific life experiences, and people with particular interests within our city. Our primary aim is to show people the incredible love of God in action, share the liberating Gospel with people, to make disciples, to equip and empower them to do the same within the context of their lives, and also to become an integral part of the local body of the church. We believe that as we do this, the reality of the Kingdom of God will exert its irresistible influence in Lancaster.
